CHRIS BOYD

FIGURES IN THE LANDSCAPE

London-based artist Chris Boyd’s paintings are concerned with our relationship with nature. Figures are seen walking down lanes into the landscape, embedded deep in hedgerows or under trees, being born out of trunks or entwined with nature as green men.

Recent small works have been influenced by Samuel Palmer and British neo-romantic artists and show figures using modern technology in ancient verdant landscapes; these works use Palmer’s pen, ink and gum arabic techniques. They explore the paradox that we now use our modern gadgets to communicate with each other in these rural idylls, which are still perceived as an escape from the cities and technologies of the modern world.
